The 2026 Wharton AI adoption report finds that 91 percent of firms use AI weekly, yet only 28 percent report strongly positive returns.

The fourth edition of the Wharton-GBK study tracks AI adoption, return, agent use and workforce impact over four years. In 2026, 91 percent of firms use AI at least weekly and 62 percent daily. Positive return is near-universal at 80 percent, but strongly positive return reaches only 28 percent, concentrated among firms measuring growth rather than efficiency alone.

NIST demonstrates a chip-based optical frequency comb built for precise timing without GPS.

Researchers at NIST and the University of Maryland built an optical frequency comb on a microchip that works without bulky lab equipment. Each chip holds up to 300 ring-shaped resonators generating precise timing signals, a step toward navigation systems that do not depend on GPS.

The ifo Institute estimates that stricter AI data rules could cost Germany 155 billion euros in value creation.

Generative AI could add 440 billion euros in annual value creation for Germany by 2034. If access to training data gets restricted, an ifo model calculation shows this figure dropping by 155 billion euros to about 285 billion euros.

5 % – Drop in estimated default probability for AI-exposed industries, in percentEUMARKETS & CAPITAL5%Drop in estimated defaultprobability for AI-exposedindustries, in percentLenders act as real-time interpreters of the AI wave, and they read it very differently from bank to bank.

An ECB study finds that banks cut assessed default risk for AI-exposed borrowers by about five percent after ChatGPT.

After public attention to generative AI rose following ChatGPT, banks in four large euro-area economies lowered the assessed probability of default for borrowers in highly AI-exposed industries by about five percent. The effect is weaker for labor-intensive firms and stronger among lenders with prior industry expertise.
